UK Wellness Retreat News: July 2026

Updated 2026

Two things stand out this week. A Cheshire spa has opened something no one else in the country has, and the summer festival season is quietly putting serious spa and contrast-therapy facilities out in the fields. Here is what is worth knowing if you are planning a break in the next few weeks.

Manor House Alsager opens a UK-first outdoor magnesium spa pool

On 8 July, Manor House in Alsager, Cheshire revealed a new outdoor space called The Courtyard, built around what it says is the UK’s first outdoor magnesium-enriched spa pool. The magnesium water is the draw: it is linked to muscle recovery, easier sleep and lower stress, and having it outdoors and heated means it is meant for year-round use rather than a summer-only feature. The Courtyard also adds heated swinging day beds under patio heaters, and it sits alongside the estate’s existing hydrotherapy tub, herbal sauna, ice plunge and salt steam room, so it reads as a proper thermal circuit rather than a single gimmick. If you are drawn to mineral bathing and heat-and-cold contrast, it is a genuinely new option in the north west. It is worth weighing against the venues in our ranked guide to the best UK wellness retreats. Details at European Spa Magazine.

Happy Place Festival returns to London this weekend

Fearne Cotton’s Happy Place Festival is back at Old Deer Park in Richmond, London on 11 and 12 July, with a second date at Tatton Park in Cheshire on 5 and 6 September. It is a wellbeing day out rather than a spa, built around talk and centre stages, expressive arts, yoga and quieter corners, with a line-up that includes Matt Haig, Ruby Wax and Sonia Choquette. Much of it is covered by the entry ticket, with a few workshops bookable on top. It is a low-commitment way to test whether the reset you are after is structured programming and talks or actual thermal and treatment facilities, which is a useful thing to work out before you spend on a full break. If you would rather book something open to all near the capital, our guide to wellness retreats near London covers the options. Dates and line-up are on the Happy Place Festival site.

Summer festivals are leaning hard into spa and contrast therapy

The bigger festivals are treating wellness as a headline feature this year rather than a side tent, which matters if a field-based reset appeals more than a hotel spa. Latitude at Henham Park in Suffolk, on 23 to 26 July, runs The Retreat, with massage, holistic treatments and a sauna and ice-bath contrast circuit in its Healing Trees area. Wilderness at Cornbury Park in Oxfordshire, on 30 July to 2 August, has The Lakeside Spa plus a wandering wild sauna, wild swimming, breathwork and forest bathing. The appeal is doing sauna, cold water and open-air movement in one place without a spa-hotel price tag, though you are trading comfort and privacy for it. If you want to get the heat-and-cold timings right wherever you end up, our sauna and cold plunge timer planner does the maths. The full festival round-up is at Good Spa Guide.
