Beaumont Mayfair Spa Reopens With a New Sauna and Steam Room

One London hotel spa back open after a refit, one campaign that could change what a spa day costs, and one large survey on why people pick a hotel. Here is what each means if you are booking a spa day or a wellness break this autumn.
The Beaumont Mayfair reopens its spa, and non-residents can book
The Beaumont, the Art Deco hotel in Mayfair, has reopened its spa after a refurbishment, Spa Business reported on 25 September. The space has not been made any bigger. What has changed is the kit and the menu: a new sauna and steam room and upgraded relaxation areas, alongside the existing cold plunge, private hammam, ice bar and plunge pool.
The treatment menu now runs across four brands. Oskia products are used in treatments that combine acupressure and lymphatic drainage with modern skin science; Salvaterra brings Brazilian skincare; La Sultane de Saba runs the hammam rituals; and Solice Health provides IV infusions, given by qualified clinicians in 45 to 60 minute sessions. The spa is open seven days a week from 9am to 9pm, last treatments at 7pm, to hotel guests and to the public.
This is a small, intimate city spa, so think of it as a treatment destination with a heat room attached rather than a place to spend a whole day on a circuit. The IV drips are the part to approach with care: ask exactly what is in the bag, who prescribes it and why, before you book, as you would for any medical procedure. For the wider choice in the capital, see spa days in London, and if you are weighing a short treatment against a full day elsewhere, our spa day value calculator puts both on a cost-per-hour basis. Spa operators ask the Chancellor to cut VAT on spa treatments to 10%
The UK Spa Association has joined One Voice, an industry campaign asking the government to cut VAT on hairdressing, barbering, beauty, spa and aesthetics services from 20% to 10%, Spa Business reported on 28 September. An open letter to the Chancellor asks for the lower rate in the Budget on 28 October, and for it to cover businesses under SIC code 96.020, “Hairdressing and other beauty treatment”.
Rachel Bevan, the association’s general manager, said a 10% rate “would provide much-needed breathing space” for operators dealing with higher employment costs, business rates and energy bills. The campaign cites CBI Economics modelling that a cut could bring in about £766 million more in VAT by 2030 than a deteriorating position if nothing is done. Spa Business points out that is a projection, not confirmed revenue. Industry groups proposed the same 10% rate during the Covid lockdowns.
For anyone booking: nothing changes yet, and a cut would not have to be passed on in prices. If the Budget does include it, the clearest test will be whether spa day prices fall from the date it takes effect. Until then, our spa break discount codes page and twilight spa packages are the reliable ways to pay less. Details at Spa Business.
One in five travellers would pick a hotel for its sauna, says Hilton survey
Hilton’s 2027 Trends Report, reported by Spa Business on 30 September, is based on a Morning Consult survey of 14,744 adults planning to travel in the next year across 14 countries including the UK. It found that 20% would choose somewhere to stay specifically because it had a sauna or steam room. 29% would book a hotel for its pool, and 35% for outdoor relaxation spaces. 61% said they were more likely to try water-based wellness while away, and 60% said they were more drawn to it when they could share it with others. 79% said fresh air and the outdoors mattered to how they relax on holiday.
It is a hotel company’s survey and it is international, so read it as a direction rather than a UK fact. But it matches what we see in openings here: more hotels are adding contrast circuits and outdoor pools rather than only treatment rooms. If heat and water matter more to you than treatments, check what the thermal side actually includes before you book; our outdoor spas in the UK and luxury spa breaks guides list the places where it is the main event.
