Search for the SHA wellness hotel and you will find a great deal of photography and very little you can actually plan around. SHA Wellness Clinic sits above El Albir on the Costa Blanca, north of Alicante, and it is the name that comes up whenever a British reader starts looking beyond a UK spa weekend at something more clinical. The question people arrive with is whether it is worth it. The question they should arrive with is what the quoted figure actually covers, because on SHA’s own website it covers less than most people assume.

We have not stayed at SHA, and this is not a first-hand review. What follows is built entirely from SHA’s own published programme, destination and clinical pages, read in August 2026, and it is aimed at the thing those pages make hard: working out what you would be committing to before you speak to anyone.

The structure that catches people out

Every programme on SHA’s Spain page is listed the same way: a programme fee, then the words “+ Suite”.

That is the single most important thing to understand about the place. The headline figure is the health programme, charged per guest per night, and the accommodation is a separate line. So the number you see quoted in a magazine article, or on a comparison site, is not the cost of the stay. It is one of two costs, and the other one varies by suite category and season.

This is not hidden. It is stated plainly on SHA’s own destination page, next to every programme. It is simply that almost nobody repeating those figures elsewhere carries the “+ Suite” across, which is how the internet ends up with a number roughly half the size of the real one.

The second structural point: most programmes are not sold by the night at all. They are sold in fixed blocks.

What each programme actually commits you to

Taken from SHA’s own programme pages and its Spain destination page:

Programme Stay length SHA publishes
Stay Your Way From 3 nights on the programme page, from 2 on the destination page
Tailor-Made From 4 nights
Cellular Regeneration From 4 nights
Rebalance & Energize 4, 7, 10 or 14 nights
Leaders Health & Performance 4, 7, 10 or 14 nights
Detox & Optimal Weight 7, 10 or 14 nights
Intensive Detox & Optimal Weight 7, 10 or 14 nights
Advanced Longevity 7, 10 or 14 nights

Read that column again, because it rules a lot of people out before price ever comes into it. There is no weekend at SHA. The shortest thing on offer is a stay of two or three nights on the entry-level programme, and the moment you want any of the three programmes SHA presents as its serious clinical offering, you are committing to a minimum of a week, and realistically ten or fourteen nights.

If you are looking for two nights away to stop feeling frayed, this is the wrong building. Our guides to wellness retreats near London and UK burnout retreats cover that end properly.

One inconsistency worth noting. SHA’s Stay Your Way programme page says “From 3 nights”. Its own SHA Spain page lists the same programme as “(From 2 nights)”. Both are live on the same site. Confirm the minimum at the point of enquiry rather than assuming the lower figure applies.

The seven shorter packs

Alongside the main programmes, SHA publishes seven specialised packs: Men’s Health, Women’s Health, Gut Health, Sleep Well, Quit Smoking, Health Optimization Check Up, and Cognitive Boost. These are the route in for anyone with a specific target rather than a general wish to feel better, and Health Optimization Check Up in particular is closer to a diagnostic workup than to a spa treatment.

If a single, defined problem is what is sending you looking, the packs are worth asking about before the headline programmes, because the programme names are deliberately broad and a pack is not.

Is it a hotel or a clinic?

Both, and the balance matters for whether you will enjoy it.

SHA describes its approach as bringing together “more than 40 medical and holistic disciplines” in a personalised method, with over 1,000 treatments available. It publishes eighteen named clinical team profiles across its locations, the majority of them doctors. Programme descriptions are written in the language of diagnostics rather than relaxation: the Detox programme talks about insulin resistance, oxidative stress and visceral fat, and about ongoing evaluation of metabolic and oxidative stress markers through the stay. The Rebalance programme talks about regulating cortisol rhythms and restoring autonomic balance.

That is the register. Whether it is a selling point depends entirely on you. Some people find a wellness stay built on biomarkers and consultations enormously reassuring, because something measurable happens and there is a plan at the end of it. Others find it the opposite of a holiday, and would rather have been left alone with a pool and a book. Be honest with yourself about which you are before committing to fourteen nights.

The setting is doing real work too. SHA claims over 300 days of sunshine a year on that stretch of coast, which is credible for the Costa Blanca and is a genuine argument for going in the British winter rather than in August.

Practicalities for a UK visitor

Getting there. The clinic is at El Albir, in l’AlfĂ s del Pi, on the coast north of Alicante. Alicante-Elche is the airport, it is well served from across the UK year-round, and SHA offers transfers. Budget an hour on the road at the far end.

When to go. The advance-booking discount is published openly: 10 per cent off accommodation for reservations made 60 or more days ahead, under the code PLANAHEAD. SHA’s own conditions on it are worth reading before you count on it, because it is non-refundable, cannot be combined with other promotions, is not valid during peak periods, and is subject to availability. A non-refundable booking made two months out on a stay of this size is a real risk, not a formality.

The other locations. SHA now operates in Spain, Mexico and the Emirates, and the same programme names appear across them at different rates. If you are comparing figures you have seen quoted, check which country they refer to, because the Mexico rates are published in dollars and the Spain rates in euros for the same programme.

Who should not book it

Being useful here means saying it plainly.

Anyone who wants a holiday. The food is part of the treatment, the schedule is the point, and the programmes are structured. That is what people pay for. It is also why some guests find the experience clinical in the pejorative sense.

Anyone whose real constraint is time. The fixed 7, 10 and 14 night blocks are not a soft preference. If you cannot take the week, the serious programmes are closed to you, and doing a shortened version of a longevity protocol is not a small version of the same thing.

Anyone comparing it on the headline figure alone. Because of the “+ Suite” structure, SHA will not compare like-for-like against a resort that quotes an all-in nightly rate. Get a full quotation for your actual dates, suite category and programme length, then compare. Our best wellness retreats in the UK and European fitness and wellness retreats guides cover what the same commitment buys closer to home.

Anyone with a medical condition who has not spoken to their own doctor. A programme built around metabolic intervention, fasting-adjacent nutrition and diagnostics is not something to walk into on the strength of a brochure.

Frequently asked questions

How much does SHA Wellness Clinic cost? There is no single figure, and that is the point most coverage misses. SHA quotes a health programme rate per guest per night, then adds the suite as a separate charge, listing every programme on its own site as a fee “plus Suite”. Any number you see quoted elsewhere is almost certainly the programme element only. Ask for a full quotation covering your dates, your suite category and your programme length.

What is the minimum stay at SHA Wellness Clinic? It depends entirely on the programme. Stay Your Way is the shortest, listed as from three nights on its own page and from two on SHA’s destination page. Tailor-Made, Cellular Regeneration, Rebalance & Energize and Leaders Health & Performance start at four nights. Detox & Optimal Weight, Intensive Detox and Advanced Longevity are sold only in 7, 10 or 14 night blocks.

Is SHA a hotel or a medical clinic? It is run as both. SHA publishes eighteen named clinical team profiles and describes its method as combining more than forty medical and holistic disciplines with over a thousand treatments, and its programme copy is written around biomarkers, diagnostics and clinically guided interventions rather than around relaxation. Expect consultations, testing and a structured schedule.

Is SHA Wellness Clinic worth it? It is worth it for someone with a defined health goal, a week or more to give it, and the budget for a programme fee and a suite rather than one of the two. It is poor value for someone who wants to rest, because you can rest far more cheaply and the structure that costs the money is the structure you would be paying to ignore.

How do you get to SHA from the UK? Fly to Alicante-Elche, which has year-round routes from most large UK airports, then travel up the coast to El Albir in l’Alfas del Pi. Allow about an hour for the transfer. SHA arranges transfers as part of the booking.

Are there SHA clinics outside Spain? Yes. SHA lists three destinations: Spain, Mexico and the Emirates. The same programme names run across them, but the rates differ and are published in different currencies, so make sure any figure you are comparing refers to the location you actually intend to visit.

Programme names, stay lengths, promotional terms and clinical team counts taken from shawellness.com, read on 27 August 2026. We have not stayed at SHA; this guide is a reading of the operator’s own published material and no rates are reproduced here. Confirm every detail directly before booking.
