The cheapest time to book a spa break is a Sunday to Thursday night in term time, away from bank holidays and the handful of gifting dates when every spa fills up. The price you pay for an overnight spa break is mostly the hotel’s room rate, and hotels price rooms by demand: when families are off school, when a bank holiday makes a long weekend, and around Valentine’s and Mother’s Day, the same package costs more and the cheap midweek offers disappear.

Those peaks fall on dates you can look up months ahead. This page lists them for the next year, from the October 2026 half term to the summer holidays of 2027, so you can see the quiet weeks before you book.

The price calendar, October 2026 to summer 2027

School holiday dates below are the council dates for community schools in Essex and Surrey, two large counties that publish their calendars on their own websites. Many councils across England use the same weeks; a few, Surrey among them this year, do not. Academies set their own dates, so always check a specific school.

Two dates matter more than they look. Valentine’s Day falls on a Sunday in 2027, which pulls demand into the Friday and Saturday before it, so the cheaper option is to go on the Monday or later that week. Mothering Sunday is 7 March, three weeks before Easter Sunday. Spa days for that weekend are often booked weeks in advance, and many spas do not discount them at all.

Why the weekday matters more than the month

Even in a quiet month, the day of the week moves the price more than anything else. Overnight spa packages are built on the hotel’s room rate, which is lowest Sunday to Thursday and highest on Friday and Saturday nights. Spa days work the same way: most venues publish a weekday price and a dearer weekend price for the same package. If you can only go at weekends, the cheapest weekends of the year are usually in January and early February, after the Christmas peak and before half term and Valentine’s.

Does half term matter for an adults-only spa?

Less than for a family hotel, but it still matters. Many spas set a minimum age of 16 or 18 for the spa itself, so children do not fill the thermal suite. But half term pushes up hotel room rates across a region, especially in holiday areas such as Cornwall, the Cotswolds, the Lake District and Yorkshire, and parents without children in tow often use those weeks too. If your spa hotel also takes families, expect the half term premium in full.

Sales that are worth waiting for

• Black Friday to Cyber Monday (27 to 30 November 2026). The spa groups and gift voucher sites run their biggest percentage discounts of the year here, often for stays the following January to March. Check the blackout dates: Valentine’s and Mother’s Day weekends are commonly excluded.
• January. Post-Christmas sales and “new year” wellness offers, aimed at filling the quietest weeks.
• Late summer. Some hotels discount September and October stays once the school holidays end.

Booking the peak dates anyway

If it has to be Mother’s Day, Valentine’s or a bank holiday weekend:

• Book early. The cheapest room types and treatment slots go first.
• Go the day after. A Monday after Mothering Sunday or a midweek date in Valentine’s week often costs much less and still marks the occasion.
