The 7 Best Day Spas in the UK (Updated November 2026)
By the Carefree Retreat team
Updated 2026
This page holds the 7 best day spas in the UK for 2026, all of which you can visit without booking a room, each checked on its own website in November 2026. Three are historic baths, two are thermal spas in city centres, and two are destination spas where the whole day is the draw.
A day spa here means you can walk in with a booking, use the facilities and go home. Some of these sit inside a hotel, but none needs you to stay in it. We have left prices out, because they move by day and season, and each booking page is the only reliable source. For staying over, see our best spa hotels in the UK.

Historic baths
Thermae Bath Spa, Bath
Thermae calls itself Britain’s original natural thermal spa, and it is built on the same water that made Bath famous. The standard visit is a two-hour Thermae Welcome session in the New Royal Bath, with towel and robe included, which gives you the open-air Rooftop Pool and the indoor Minerva Bath. The Wellness Suite is a separate area on the spa’s session pages.
Two hours goes quickly, so go for the rooftop and do not expect a full day. Thermae advises booking your preferred time, because walk-in space on the day is not guaranteed. The minimum age is 16, or 18 for treatments. There is more on Bath in our Somerset spa days page.
Turkish Baths Harrogate
The Harrogate baths describe themselves as the most historically complete Victorian Turkish Baths in Britain, with Moorish arches and glazed brickwork. A visit is a bookable 1.5 to 2 hour experience, with limited places every 30 minutes, and swimwear is compulsory at every session.
Most sessions are mixed. The timetable also lists a ladies-only session on Tuesdays and a gentlemen-only session on Wednesdays, both from 6pm to 8.30pm, so check it before you pick a day. It suits a short, quiet visit and pairs well with a walk around the town. Our Yorkshire spa days page has the longer options nearby.
Porchester Spa, Bayswater, London
Porchester dates from 1929 and is Grade II* listed, and its operator bills it as London’s oldest spa following an £800,000 refurbishment. You get two steam rooms, the Turkish hot rooms (tepidarium, caldarium and laconium), a sauna, a plunge pool and a relaxation lounge, as listed on its venue page. Entry is for over-18s.
Everyone Active runs it with Westminster City Council and pitches it on affordable prices, and the on-site café keeps to hot drinks, sandwiches and the like. Check the day’s session rules before you travel. Our London spa days page covers other options across the city.
City-centre thermal spas
AIRE Ancient Baths London, Covent Garden
AIRE’s London baths sit a few minutes from Covent Garden, in a building it describes as the former house of J.M. Barrie, the author of Peter Pan. The idea is a sequence of baths at different temperatures, which you can book with or without a massage. Compare the baths-only option with the massage packages before you book.
One Spa, Edinburgh
One Spa is part of the Sheraton Grand on Conference Square, but its Escape at One visit is open to day visitors who book. It gives you the Thermal Suite and the rooftop Hydropool, an indoor-outdoor warm pool with body jets. The spa lists opening hours of 6.30am to 10pm, Monday to Sunday, which makes an early or evening visit realistic. Our Scotland spa days page lists the alternatives further afield.
Destination day spas
Eden Hall Day Spa, Nottinghamshire
Eden Hall is a true day spa, with no hotel attached, set in a Victorian gothic mansion near Newark. The main feature is a 25-metre vitality pool, long enough for a real swim, plus a spa garden with a heated hydrotherapy pool and an outdoor sauna. It runs day and twilight packages, and it is adults-only. Our Eden Hall review goes through the facilities and the food.
The Spa Hotel at Ribby Hall Village, Lancashire
This has the strongest award record on the list: the Good Spa Guide’s Best UK Day Spa in 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025. It is an adult-only spa between Preston and Blackpool, built around its Aqua Thermal Journey. Its spa days come as morning, lunch, afternoon tea or evening visits, so you can choose how long you spend there. More in our Blackpool and Lancashire spa days page.
The next awards are close. The Good Spa Guide Awards ceremony is on 16 November 2026, with new Best Day Spa categories split between boutique spas and those with seven or more treatment rooms, so this list may change after that date.
How to choose
Decide first how long you want to be there. Thermae and the Harrogate baths are built around two-hour sessions, so they suit a morning or a visit combined with a day in town. Eden Hall and Ribby Hall are worth a longer visit, as they include lunch or afternoon tea options and more space to spread out.
Then check the age rule, particularly if you are going with a teenager. Thermae takes 16 year olds and Porchester is 18 and over. Eden Hall and Ribby Hall describe themselves as adults-only, so ask before booking for anyone under 18. If you are visiting during pregnancy, read our pregnancy spa day page and call the spa first. For the practical side, see what to wear to a spa day and our twilight spa packages page if you can only get there after work.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best day spa in the UK? The Spa Hotel at Ribby Hall Village won the Good Spa Guide’s Best UK Day Spa award four years running, from 2022 to 2025. The 2026 winners are due on 16 November 2026.
Can you go to a spa hotel without staying overnight? Often, yes. Ribby Hall sells spa days to people who are not staying, and One Spa in Edinburgh is open to day visitors. Rules vary, so book the day package directly and check what it includes.
How long is a typical day spa visit? It depends on the spa. Thermae Bath Spa’s standard session is two hours and the Harrogate baths run 1.5 to 2 hours, while a destination spa day can take up much of the day.
Can under-18s go to a day spa? Some allow it. Thermae Bath Spa’s minimum age is 16, or 18 for treatments. Porchester Spa takes over-18s only. Eden Hall and Ribby Hall describe themselves as adults-only, so ask them about anyone under 18.
Do you need to book a day spa in advance? Yes, for most. Thermae says walk-in availability cannot be guaranteed, and the Harrogate baths limit entry to set places every 30 minutes.
Do you wear swimwear at a Turkish bath? At Harrogate, yes: swimwear is compulsory at all sessions, including single-sex ones. Check the rules at any other baths you visit.
