Most of what comes up when you look for a Yeotown review is a magazine writer’s first-person week, glowing, with the hike in the hail as the comic turn. That tells you how it feels. It does not tell you what you are committing to: which room, which rules, what happens to your money if you cannot go. This review covers that side, built from Yeotown’s own programme, accommodation, FAQ and payment terms pages, read on 25 October 2026, together with published press reviews. We have not stayed, and we say where the picture is unclear.

Yeotown in one paragraph

Yeotown Devon is a small, fixed-programme wellness retreat on a 17th-century farm in 40 acres near Barnstaple in North Devon, run by founders Mercedes and Simon Sieff for 16 years. The signature stay is five days, Wednesday lunchtime to Sunday lunchtime, for a maximum of 12 guests. You do not pick sessions from a menu: hikes, yoga, fitness, breathwork, sauna and hot tub, and a massage at the end of each full day are all set by the team, and the timetable is not shared in advance. There is a sister retreat on Madeira and two Yeotown restaurants in London.

The name has changed twice

If you have read about the “Yeotox”, the “Yeotown Reset” and now the “Yeotown Realignment”, they are the same five-day Devon programme. Yeotown has renamed it more than once, and its website now calls it a Realignment. Older press reviews use the earlier names, so do not assume you are looking at a different product.

What is included in the five days

From Yeotown’s Devon pages, the fully inclusive stay covers:

  • your room for four nights (Wednesday to Sunday)
  • all meals, juices and tonics from the Yeotown kitchen
  • a daily guided outdoor session: coastal hikes, river or sea swims, dune walks or a cycle, chosen for the season and weather
  • yoga and movement classes, functional fitness, breathwork, meditation and sound baths
  • contrast therapy, sauna and hot tub
  • three massages, one at the end of each full day
  • talks on nutrition and cooking demonstrations

Extra therapies can be booked on top, and these have their own cancellation rules (see below). Travel is not included: the nearest station is Tiverton Parkway, just under two hours from London Paddington, and Yeotown offers a bookable transfer from there. There is parking with EV charging if you drive.

The cheapest room is a Classic Farmhouse room, single occupancy, sharing a bathroom with one other guest. Every other room type has its own bathroom, and the price climbs through the Lodge Room, Threshing Barn rooms, Farmhouse Suite and Eco-Lodges up to the Love and Be Loved Cottage, which costs roughly half as much again as the entry room. Rates are per person, so a couple in a double room pays twice. Check current rates on Yeotown’s Devon accommodation page before you enquire.

The food, and the coffee rule

The menu is pescatarian and free from gluten, dairy, refined sugar, alcohol and coffee. Yeotown asks guests to cut down on coffee and sugar for a few days before arriving, to avoid withdrawal headaches on day one. Matcha and green and white teas are served instead. Desserts appear, sweetened with fruit or maple syrup.

This is the part people underestimate. If your morning starts with two flat whites, start tapering a week before, not the night before. Every published review we read rated the food highly; nobody described it as a starvation diet, and Yeotown does not sell the stay as a weight-loss programme.

How fit you need to be

Yeotown says the week is for “real people, not athletes”, hikes have a second guide when the group splits into two speeds, and injuries are discussed in advance. But the booking form is more specific: you sign to confirm you are in good health and able to hike 10km. Take that as the real bar. North Devon weather is changeable even in summer, and one press reviewer’s first coastal hike was in gale-force wind and hail, so bring waterproofs and walking boots you have already worn in.

The money: read the payment terms first

This is where Yeotown is stricter than a hotel, and where a review that skips it does you a disservice. From the payment terms page:

  • The 25% deposit is non-refundable in all circumstances.
  • The balance is due 8 weeks (56 days) before arrival. Book inside that window and you pay in full upfront. (The accommodation page still says six weeks; the payment terms page is the fuller document, so plan on 8.)
  • Cancel 60 days or more out: you get back what you paid beyond the deposit.
  • Cancel 59 to 30 days out: no refund, but you can move to another date once, within 12 months, for a £150 admin fee.
  • Cancel within 30 days: no refund and no date change.
  • No refunds for no-shows, early departures, travel delays or bad weather.
  • You can transfer your place to someone else at any time before arrival, at no cost, if they fill in the application form.

Yeotown itself strongly advises travel insurance. Our guide to cancelling a retreat and your refund rights explains where consumer law helps and where it does not, and our piece on travel insurance activity exclusions covers the small print that catches hikers and cold-water swimmers.

One wording mismatch is worth knowing about: the accommodation page describes the stay as “five nights”, but the programme runs Wednesday to Sunday, which is four nights. The programme page itself calls it a “five-day/four-night” experience. Ask for the dates in writing when you book.

Is Yeotown worth it?

Weighed against a spa hotel break, the comparison is wrong: at a hotel you pay for a room and then for every treatment and class. At Yeotown nearly everything is in the rate, there are never more than 12 of you, and you make no decisions all week. That is the product. If what you want is to be looked after on a schedule, outdoors, with good food and no alcohol, it delivers something hard to build yourself.

It is poor value if you:

  • want to choose your own day, sleep in, or skip the hikes
  • would miss wine and coffee more than you would enjoy the rest
  • cannot be sure of your dates, given the deposit and the 30-day cut-off
  • mainly want spa treatments; a luxury spa break gives you more of those for the money

If five days is too long, Yeotown also runs Realign: The Long Weekend, Thursday to Sunday on selected dates (the next is 5 to 8 November 2026), and guest-led long weekends such as a vinyasa weekend with Mercedes Sieff from 7 to 10 January 2027 and a burnout weekend with psychotherapist Julia Samuel from 21 to 24 January 2027.

Frequently asked questions

How long is the Yeotown retreat? The signature Devon programme is five days and four nights, arriving Wednesday midday and leaving after 2pm on Sunday. It runs every week of the year. A three-day Long Weekend, Thursday to Sunday, runs on selected dates.

Can you go to Yeotown on your own? Yes, and many guests do. The Classic Farmhouse rooms and the Lodge Room are single occupancy only, and the group of up to 12 eats together, so solo guests are not left on their own unless they want to be.

Is coffee allowed at Yeotown? No. The menu is free from coffee, alcohol, refined sugar, gluten and dairy. Yeotown suggests reducing coffee and sugar for a few days before you arrive to avoid headaches on the first day.

Is Yeotown suitable for beginners? For yoga, yes: classes are open to all levels. The real requirement is walking. The booking form asks you to confirm you can hike 10km, and the daily outdoor sessions go out in most weather.

Can I get a refund if I cancel Yeotown? Only partly, and only early. The 25% deposit is never refunded. Cancel 60 days or more before arrival and you get back anything paid above the deposit; between 59 and 30 days you can move dates once for a £150 fee; within 30 days you lose the full amount. You can always transfer your place to someone else.

Where is Yeotown Devon and how do you get there? It is in the countryside near Barnstaple in North Devon. By train, go to Tiverton Parkway, just under two hours from London Paddington, and book Yeotown’s transfer from there. By car, there is parking and EV charging on site.
